The Second International SUMMER SCHOOL on the Study of EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS through Integrated Approaches (ISS-SEEA)

The Second International SUMMER SCHOOL on the Study of EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS through Integrated Approaches (ISS-SEEA)

Dear Colleagues,
after the first edition's success, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, I have the pleasure to announce the Second Edition of the Summer School on the Study of Extreme Environments through Integrated Approaches (ISS-SEEA).
The ISS-SEEA will take place from the 22nd to the 25th of September, at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Sicily Marine Centre, Messina (Italy).
The School will focus on the study of extreme environments with a holistic approach, including ecological, biotechnological, toxicological, and modelling perspectives. New topics will be addressed, covering the concepts of bioacoustics in extreme environments, oceanographic dynamics, astrobiology, and anoxic basins. A special focus will also be devoted to the Strait of Messina and its extreme dynamics.
The course will consist of 4 days and foresees both lectures by leading experts and practical sessions, including the observation of mesopelagic species, taxonomy, laboratory experience for the treatment of samples for biotechnological purposes (production of bioactive compounds) and observation of the bioluminescence phenomenon.
The School is open to students, PhD students and early career researchers to enhance their knowledge on these topics; to gain specific skills through multidisciplinary experiences as well as to establish new collaboration networks.
ISS-SEEA will be a valuable and stimulating opportunity to engage with some of the leading experts in marine ecology and biotechnology.
